Sorry for the delay! I had a hard time toning this page…The Rurouni Kenshin costumes are so detailed and I find myself wanted to put tone in places which really don’t need it. I like the fire tone though…it really shows Alice’s fury. ^_^

Well, another semester has finally ended and not a moment to soon as I started to fall behind on nsmg. This page was such a pain to do… In retrospect I think I should have made this into 2 pages instead of one. I like the composition but it’s quite cluttered. ^_^; oh well, create and learn right?

Also, my drawing tablet finally kicked the bucket which gave me an excuse to upgrade to a cintiq! ^_^

I’m ridiculously happy.

I just got a manga software upgrade and I was having so much fun experimenting with all the new tone and brushes that I think I went a little bit crazy with this page. I hope the image doesn’t seem over-toned. I’m really happy with how the kimono the fairy in the bottom panel is wearing came out though. ^_^

Welcome to Chapter 2 of NSMG. I picked Rurouni Kenshin as the first group character cosplay for Kaya, Alice and Jasper because I wanted to see what it would be like to draw Kimono and other types of traditional Japanese dress… and well… it’s super difficult for me but I wouldn’t mind drawing it again. I also picked RK because it’s one of the first manga series I read through from start to finish and a personal favorite.

I also want to give special thanks to Alyce Wilson for providing me with the background image of the dealer’s room at Otakon! ^_^ You can find her original image here.

Welcome to the relaunch of Not So Magical Girl. Although the website still looks ugly, I’m going ahead and starting the re-posting of Chapter one.

So here is the lone male in my comic. I really have to improve on my drawings of boys…I’ve been drawing girls for so long It’s hard for me to make my male characters look male.

I like Jasper a lot. He’s kinda the embodiment of a lot of perverted nerds I know. ^_^ I think he would be totally happy to date both Kaya and Alice at once but after a week or so he would start to feel guilty…and then wouldn’t be able to decide on which girl…and then rationalize hoe dating them both is perfectly okay (as long as Kaya and Alice are okay with it too, right?). ^_^ Jasper’s a good soul though and has a surprisingly brave and serious side to him. I hope I get to draw that sometime later in the comic.

It tool me forever to figure out his first name though…

Alisa is such a peculiar little girl. She has this little stuffy she calls Kitt-monster that she brings everywhere with her but somehow he got left out of this illustration. >_<

I had a song by Tori Amos called “Ribbons Undone” stuck in my head while drawing and inking Alisa’s bio and I realized that she was actually quite the opposite of that song so I went with “Ribbons Tied Up” as the name of her outfit. ^_^

It’s such a pretty song.

Alice’s (and Alisa’s) last name was more of a difficult decision…but I like the sound of it. It’s very…normal and “not so magickal”.

So chapter one + intro is finally completed, Hooray! Now onto the character bios. I really put a lot of detailed thought into my characters…most of which goes unnoticed because It’s not really needed for the story. So I decided to make full character illustration with bios here for your reference. I will also be adding them to my illustration gallery after they are posted: HERE.

Kaya’s last name was an easy find but some of the character’s full names were quite difficult to pick. I really like what names can do for a character. I sometimes wish the English language used kanji so I could more easily insert hidden meanings within each character’s name. In the end, I managed to select names that I felt were meaningful to each character, complimented the story & sounded nice together. You can’t just throw any old names together…or at least, I sure as hell can’t. lol – Kaya’s last name is pronounced (Tie-fer) btw.

Ah, finally, chapter one is complete! >_< I’m pretty happy with how this page turned out…I went in a totally different direction then how I originally planned tone-wise but I’m happy with the end product. Hooray! Much thanks to all that have read Not So Magical Girl thus far and for all your lovely emails and comments.

The next few pages will be devoted to character bios and then Chapter Two will begin. I’m so excited!
